Entomological Skills
Students will learn how to collect, pin, label and identify insects to create a stunning display collection. The class will conduct short collecting trips to nearby habitats during the day, while the evenings are usually spent on specimen preparation and identification. Emphasis will be placed on family level identification.
After completing the course students will have learned the following entomological skills:
- Collecting Techniques (Hand collecting, and trapping techniques)
- Specimen Preparation/Mounting (Pinning, pointing, fluid preservation)
- Insect Identification
Photography Skills
Photographic workshops will be offered throughout the two week course. These fun workshops give the students chance to have hands-on activities to push their photography further. The small class size will facilitates lots of one-on-one opportunities with the instructors. Students are asked to submit an insect image collection at the end of the course.
